Cuts heating costs in Massachusetts winters
With double pane low E glass
Shaddai Home Improvement installs and replaces windows, exterior doors, and storm doors on Massachusetts homes. Twenty five years sealing units that hold up to New England winters and the wind driven rain that finds every gap in a sloppy install.
Windows and doors are where most Massachusetts homes lose energy and let weather in. Old single pane windows leak heat all winter and cool air all summer. Aging exterior doors warp, sag, and let drafts through gaps that close on a piece of paper. Worse, when these units are installed wrong, water gets behind the casing and rots the framing around the opening. Twenty five years on Massachusetts homes has taught us that the install matters as much as the unit you pick. A good window installed badly fails.
Window installation starts with the rough opening. We pull the existing window out, inspect the framing for rot or water damage, and address anything that needs to be fixed before the new unit goes in. Then we install proper flashing tape around the opening, set the new window in plumb and level, shim it to specification, and seal the perimeter with low expansion foam designed for window applications. The exterior trim goes back on with caulk at the joints. The interior gets cased and finished after the install passes inspection.
Replacement window jobs come in two main types. Insert replacements where we install a new window into the existing frame, which is faster and cheaper but only works if the original frame is sound. Full frame replacements where we tear the old unit and frame out and start fresh in the rough opening. Full frame is more work and more cost but it is the right call when the original frame is rotted, when you want to change the window size, or when the existing flashing has failed and water is getting in.
Massachusetts winters expose every gap in a window or door install. Cold air finds the smallest opening and drafts get noticeable fast. The weatherstripping that worked in November shrinks in January and starts letting cold air through. Glass that is not properly sealed condenses moisture between panes. Doors that close fine in summer bind in winter when the framing shifts with the cold. Quality units installed correctly handle this. Cheap units installed quickly do not. The first hard freeze tells you which one you got on the install.
Quality windows and doors installed correctly cut energy bills, improve security, and stop drafts that make rooms uncomfortable. Here is what professional installation delivers.
